Six months after Marvin Gaye's death, in July 1984, Sarah Vaughan released her ninth album, 'Luv Toujours', which, like Diana Ross's 'Lady Sings the Blues', marked her exit from the vocal jazz world. Vaughan had attempted to return to the jazz scene in 1970 with 'You Make Me Feel So Young', a collection of standards with a light swing influence which was too light to be convincing, and which was only covered on stage by Vaughan with Randy Newman, after the original recording had been recorded. And when she did record the album, she only recorded with her husband at the time, the gifted guitarist Paul Shaffer, one time guitarist for Eric Clapton and one time keyboardist for The Steve Miller Band , among others. On this album, the instrumentation is minimal, and at times, literally nonexistent. It is a very jazzy album, but one that is all the more interesting for it. It is at times a bit of a stretch for a vocalist, but Vaughan has always been a multi-instrumentalist, and this is one of her most musical albums.
Darryl was the second member to leave the group in the mid-'90s. He released one album, 'The Promise' in 1996, and has since continued to release solo albums. He is a member of R&B artist and songwriter group 'The Whispers' 827ec27edc
