Vaughan's army of green recruits faced two major enemy forces: the Execcentric, led by the Outsider Olimar, and a pair of separatist factions known as the Rogues. With the previous enemy forces rooted out, Vaughan's green recruits faced the remaining Red Beret and Galadria of the Execcentric, who were busy fortifying their fortress in a nearby seaside town. The recruits were quickly sent into action and pushed back in skirmishes that showcased the talents of the green recruits. Finally, the Galadria and the Red Beret tried to destroy the green recruits' outpost, but failed in their attempt. Vaughan, realizing that he did not have enough forces to hold against the rogue factions, sent the green recruits back to the base to rearm.
Vaughan took the recruits for a R.O.T.O. training mission, where they stormed the hostile base to free a child captive from the Rogues. Vaughan and his recruits were repulsed by the base's weak defenses, which included a dirt floor and an old, battered lock on the door, and were also met by a few of the Rogues' elite soldiers. Despite the loss of the green recruits' comrade, the mission was a success, and the prisoner was returned to his parents. Upon their return to the base, the green recruits were told that they would take a three-day leave, as a form of reward for a job well done. While here, the recruits met Olimar, the leader of the Execcentric, and learned more of the details of the Execcentric's roster. They were also informed that they would not be returning to the base, and would be reassigned to a new enemy base in the Outer Colonies.
