The game is set in the year 2287 and is about a group of former soldiers on the run from a massive corporation called Gorilla Productions, who plan to exploit the local population by kidnapping a young woman. They must also avoid an attack by the same corporation on their ship after they evade capture and are declared outlaws. A dystopian society is not the only thing waiting for them; the game contains many of the issues facing the United States in the early 21st century, including references to the Iraq War, cyberwarfare, and the feminist movement. This is the first major science fiction role-playing game to include a full campaign set in the United States.
The Firefly Role-Playing Game was officially supported by Joss Whedon and his team for the first year after release. It received 2nd Place in the 2014 ENnie awards for Best Roleplaying Game and Best Rules System.
Firefly is a science fiction television series created by writer and producer Joss Whedon. The series premiered on Fox on May 20, 2002 and ran for ten episodes. It follows a group of mercenary crew members and their interactions aboard the Serenity, a large freighter starship. The characters - played by actor and writer Alan Tudyk, actress Gina Torres, and actor Adam Baldwin - include Jayne Cobb, a former soldier who has become a gun for hire, Inara, a mysterious woman in a pilot's jumpsuit, and The Doctor, a gentle man who plays a more passive role than most other characters. The series spawned a series of related novels and comic books, a movie and a spinoff video game.
The Firefly Role-Playing Game is part of an ongoing series of Firefly role-playing games that provide new adventures set in the universe of the series, with the exception of the Legacy of the Serenity crossover game. While the Cortex Plus system provides rules for play that are designed to be played in two different but related genres (science-fiction role-playing and Cortex Plus game), the other Firefly products are not Cortex Plus games, and use other game systems. 827ec27edc
