Tom Hanks plays Captain Layton of the USS Wasp and his role is to be the lead navigator during a mission to bomb the Death Camps. On takeoff, the plane is attacked by some German fighter planes. The Wasp is hit and the navigator is severely burned. The soldiers on board are left to fight the disadvantage. Some have the idea that the story is dark. For example, you are watching a hero being tried for his life before being given a death sentence by his own country. It's actually very light. There is no real dramatic tension here. The plot turns are so ridiculous, that they made me laugh. It's basically just a movie about a guy who has a tough job. What bothers me is the science fiction story line. It's all about the FTL drive. I've driven a car that has one for years. If you aren't at a high speed, there is no measurable acceleration. Also in the military, there are always technical problems that keep happening, like a jet that will always overshoot a target, or a for of radar that glitches all the time. So, why on Earth do they have a FTL drive? And why are they making these trips to Germany all of a sudden?I would have preferred just to have a story about Captain Layton. It pretty much tells the same story, but without all the dumb unrealistic crap. It would have been much more interesting. The movie completely fails to give a rational reason that the Germans would be interested in what their allies were doing.
If I were in my prime, then surely, I would have been in the thick of all these dramatic events and turmoil. However, life keeps bumping in and now I am in my 50s. I am a ripe age for a person who wants to live in a time before he was born. Having said that, I find it satisfying who have seen the movie finally. It is a great deception on the German’s part d2c66b5586
